FAQ

What presenting concerns do you treat?

Dr. Cheung works with adolescents, college students, and adults experiencing a range of symptoms including anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, OCD, and life stressors such as adjustment to college, identity development, work challenges, interpersonal relationships, and general transitions.

Who would not be a good fit?

Because of the limits of Dr. Cheung’s private practice, people struggling with high risk for suicide/serious self-harm, eating disorders, substance use, or anyone requiring more than weekly contact and/or who needs greater access to their provider would not be a good fit. Dr. Cheung does not see clients after 3:30pm on Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays, after 12pm on Wednesdays, or on weekends and has limited availability to respond to crisis situations (i.e., if she is working with another client, overnight, on weekends, etc.). For this reason, it is very important that you are aware of other services available in the event of a crisis. If you experience a crisis or emergency, call 911, go to your local emergency room, or call the MA statewide Emergency State Program/Mobile Crisis Intervention (ESP/MCI) at 1-877-382-1609.

Do you provide remote telehealth services?

Dr. Cheung’s practice is fully remote and she offers telehealth sessions via a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform for clients located in Massachusetts. Please note that Dr. Cheung does not offer any in-person sessions.

Do you take health insurance?

Dr. Cheung does not bill insurance companies directly and is not part of any networks. Some insurance companies (i.e., PPO plans) provide partial reimbursement for services rendered by out-of-network providers. Please check with your insurance provider to determine whether you have any out-of-network coverage for behavioral health and to request more specific information about your plan's reimbursement rate, deductible, and mental health coverage. Dr. Cheung can provide you with documentation that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage. Please note that Dr. Cheung can not guarantee you will receive any reimbursement.

Some questions you could ask your insurance company:

How much does a session cost?

An initial 45-minute intake assessment session is $300 and a standard 45-minute therapy session is $300. Sessions are typically weekly for 45 minutes. Longer or shorter sessions will be prorated. While sessions are typically weekly, they can be scheduled on a more or less frequent basis (e.g.,  twice a week, every other week) when deemed clinically appropriate. You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. You also have rights and protections against Surprise Medical Bills.

Can you explain what is a Good Faith Estimate?

Yes! More detailed information about a Good Faith Estimate can be found here.

What are my rights and protections against Surprise Medical Bills?

More detailed information about your rights and protections against Surprise Medical Bills can be found here.

What is the Patients First law in Massachusetts?

On January 1, 2021, Governor Baker signed An Act Promoting a Resilient Health Care System that Puts Patients First (“Patients First”) into law which makes significant changes to the state’s healthcare laws. The law requires health care providers to tell patients how much patients will pay for planned hospital stays, medical procedures, health care services, and referrals – based on the patient’s specific health insurance plan. Please note that Dr. Cheung does not bill insurance companies directly and is not part of any networks. You can review the notice of rights available to you as a patient along with more detailed information on the Mass.gov website.
